Biographical / Historical

Following the Confiscation Acts of 1861 and 1862, U.S. Marshalls James Close and John Underwood conducted land seizures and confiscations of the citizens of Alexandria, Virginia at the behest of U.S. District Attorney Lucius Chandler.
