The James S. Hallowell Collection consists of papers from the Alexandria Boarding School (1824 - ?) including: correspondence from parents to the school, minutes, and catalogs. Also in the collection are the regulations and catalogs of the Alexandria Female Seminary (1848-1860). Additionally there are class notes and exercises (of undetermined origin), a report card, and personal diary books from James S. Hallowell and Mary [S.] Hallowell.

The new building at 1207 Madison Street, Alexandria, Virginia took with it the name Parker-Gray High School and the previously occupied building on Wythe Street was renamed the Charles Houston Elementary School. Black and white photograph, portrait of Principal Wesley D. Elam with the faculty of the Parker-Gray School in Alexandria, Virginia. Elam was the second principal of Parker-Gray and served from 1927 through 1938. Sixteen men and women are posed in three or four uneven rows, standing on the steps in front of the main entrance to the school. Elam is last man on the right. The man in the center of the front row is Rozier D. Lyles, a teacher at the school. Photograph is undated, c.1930s
